Affirmation of Faith

Westminster Confession of Faith, Ch. 8, Section 1

It pleased God, in His eternal purpose,
to choose and ordain the Lord Jesus,
His only begotten Son,
to be the Mediator between God and man,
the Prophet, Priest, and King,
the Head and Savior of His church,
the Heir of all things, and Judge of the world:
unto whom He did from all eternity give a people,
to be His seed, and to be by Him in time
redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.

Tasting God’s Grace

Confession of Sin and Assurance of Pardon

O Lord, we would come to You with the penitence of the prodigal son, confessing that we have sinned against heaven and in Your sight. You give freely of the Bread of Life to all who seek Your fullness, and You bestow a father’s blessing on every returning wanderer. We have wandered from You. We have squandered the goods You have given us as though they belonged to us, forgetting that our life and breath and all things are from You. Often we have lived as if we had no heavenly Father to thank for His goodness. We sought satisfaction in earthly pleasures, but they were only as husks to our souls. And now we come back crying, “Why should we perish with hunger, when there is bread enough in our Father’s house to spare?” We thank You that we feel our wanderings, and You inclined our hearts to come back to You. O gracious Father, have mercy on us. Grant us forgiveness. Amen.

Thanksgiving

People:  And also with you.

Pastor:  Lift up your hearts.

People:  We lift them to the Lord.

Pastor:  Let us give thanks to the Lord.

People:  It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

Pastor: It is right and good and a joyful thing, always and everywhere to give You thanks, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
